The Gene Dudley Group

Deeply Soulful, Tropical, Funky

The Gene Dudley Group represent the deeply soulful, tropical and funky outpourings of twenty-something producer, currently residing in North London, Gene Dudley.

Gene’s debut album, Saturday Shifting, was released on Wah Wah 45s in 2013 to much acclaim from Craig Charles to Gilles Peterson and Kenny Dope. Its low slung funk and cinematic feel earned Mr Dudley many new fans, but also some choice live shows with his band supporting the Hot 8 Brass Band at their first ever live show, and ending 2014 as Stones Throw artists Myron & E’s backing / support band on their European tour!

Gene’s second LP, a more uptempo, vocal and tropical affair entitled Zambidoose, will be released on Wah Wah 45s in July of 2015.

Live Show

Gene Dudley’s live show has grown extensively over the past two years. Starting as a very tight instrumental funk group, supporting the Hot 8 Brass Band, it’s members have grown both in stature and number. Having taken on female funk DJ and vocalist Anne Frankenstein (vocalist on Dudley’s version of No Trouble on the Mountain) and extended their live output to include the more uptempo, carnival flavoured sounds of the new album, The Gene Dudley Group have become something of a party starting outfit. Their recent residency at Shoreditch’s Blues Kitchen is a testament to that, as well as their continued popularity on the festival circuit.
